I know it’s kind of lame to go on and on about the weather, but I’m truly just so elated to be feeling the first signs of the changing season. And with that also comes a welcome, though somewhat perplexing, shift in our wardrobes. Spring, with its weather related ups and downs, can sometimes feel like a confusing time to get dressed.
I think we tend to overcomplicate transitional dressing. When it comes to spring, I always lean into my existing foundational pieces, play around with outerwear and accessories, and lean into the functionality of it all. A great water-wicking jacket and a rain boot can feel very chic!
Lightweight Layers

While the base of my wardrobe remains relatively unchanged— some sort of functional pant (workwear, denim, or a variation on an elasticated situation) and a white T-shirt— this is when I swap chunkier knitwear for lighter layers.

Outerwear
Much like fall and winter, this is my favourite part of spring dressing. There’s so much to play with, and I love the technical aspect of the season’s outerwear— a great trench, barn jacket, or raincoat can feel utilitarian in a way that looks both interesting and effortless. It also feels right to carry leather and suede through into spring, bringing even more depth and texture into the mix.

Accessories

At least on the East Coast, I’m still keeping things closed toe for transitional weather. On milder days, I’ll usually choose a sneaker, loafer, or ballet flat— preferably something with a proper sole. Where I live, I’m not quite ready for a barely there shoe, and I’m still usually pairing with a sock. On colder or rainy days, it will most likely be my trusty Nobilis boots or a wellie. Evenings can call for any of the above (though less often sneakers and rain boots), a heeled boot or shoe.
This is also a fun moment to bring in more summery elements to lighten up the look. A canvas or woven bag, for example, can be just the thing to bring the spring energy we’re craving to an outfit.

Happy almost Spring! xx

i like the focus on texture here, suede and leather in spring always look better than people expect.
